First Wedding Dance Lessons

Why Take Wedding Dance Lessons?
Your wedding day should be one of the most exciting occasions of your life, and your first dance should be an unforgettable experience.
It's natural to feel anxious, especially with so many family and friends watching, but this is your moment to shine and create a magical memory you’ll treasure for years to come.
Many couples wonder if wedding dance lessons are just another expense on an already expensive day, but they can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the preparation.
Wedding dance lessons aren’t only about steps; they’re about designing choreography that suits your chosen song, learning how to lead and follow, and moving around the dance floor together as one.
With all the stress of invitations, guest lists, and deciding who can sit next to whom (and who absolutely mustn’t!), your dance lessons are a welcome escape, a chance to laugh, move, and share something special as a couple.
Wedding Choreography Tailored to You
Forget one-size-fits-all routines; the best wedding choreography should reflect your story, music taste, and comfort level.
The song you choose for your first wedding dance is deeply personal, tied to shared memories and moments that matter. So, it makes perfect sense to create choreography that brings your story to life.
The aim is to capture the meaning and emotion behind a song that's special to you. That's what makes your first dance feel genuine, heartfelt and memorable.
When to Start Your Wedding Dance Lessons
Ideally, you should begin your wedding dance lessons about three to four months before the big day. That gives you time to learn and practise your routine until you feel confident.
If dance lessons are a last‑minute idea, don’t worry; it’s never too late to pick up some steps and surprise your guests.
FAQs
What happens at the first wedding dance lesson?
We'll play your song, try a basic hold and a few steps, and talk about the feel you want, whether romantic, fun or with a surprise element. You'll leave with something simple to practise.
We have two left feet. Can we still do this?
Absolutely! Most couples who take wedding dance lessons have no previous dance experience and some worry they have no rhythm.
I will tailor lessons to your ability, and we'll work towards building something that you feel comfortable with.
How many lessons do we need?
The number of dance lessons you need totally depends on you, how confident you want to become and the complexity of your routine.
For something simple, 2 to 4 lessons may be enough, but for something with more complex choreography, 10 to 12 lessons is more realistic.
How long is a lesson?
My standard lesson is 60 minutes. However, a lesson can be 90 minutes or even two hours if you prefer.
What should we wear to our dance lessons?
Think comfort over fashion: soft‑soled shoes, flat shoes, or even the shoes you’ll be wearing on the day. In fact, that may be more beneficial, as it helps you get used to how they feel. Trainers aren’t recommended, and stilettos must have heel protectors to avoid scratching the studio dance floor.
I teach lessons at a professional dance studio in Paddington, London.
